Off-duty NYPD cop charged with DWI after crashing sports car in Brooklyn a decade after similar arrest
An off-duty NYPD cop was charged with DWI after he crashed his sports car in Brooklyn — a decade after he faced similar charges over a Queens crash, cops said Sunday.
Joseph King, 35, crashed his 2015 Subaru WRX at E. 16th St. and the Belt Parkway in Coney Island about 4:35 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Responding officers said King had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech and took him to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he refused a blood test, according to police.
He is charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired, and refusing to take a breath test.
King, who works in the NYPD’s Brooklyn South gang squad unit, was arrested for drunken driving in 2010 when he crashed his 2001 Honda Accord against a guardrail on the Belt Parkway near the Cross Bay Blvd. exit in Howard Beach, Queens.
