Kyrie Irving could return to Nets Saturday, fined over $800K by NBA
The Nets’ Big Three could debut as soon as Saturday. Kyrie Irving plans to return to the team if he continues testing negative for COVID, and he’s eligible to return for Saturday’s game against the Magic.
The NBA said in a statement that Irving would be fined $50,000 for violating the league’s coronavirus rules by going to his sister’s birthday party at a club.
That party, which was last weekend, started the clock on a five-day quarantine that ends Friday. Irving missed two games in that time, meaning he’ll forfeit two game checks, or about $800,000.
Irving was seen on a Zoom call for Manhattan district attorney candidate Tahanie Aboushi on Tuesday. He hasn’t played for the Nets since Jan. 5, when he left the team for what has been termed “personal reasons.” It appears he could rejoin the Nets when James Harden makes his debut.
