Dismembered torso of woman found in shopping cart on Brooklyn street
The dismembered torso of a woman was discovered stuffed in a shopping cart by a horrified passerby on a Brooklyn street early Thursday, police said.
The gruesome find was made about 1:45 a.m. by a man walking by Pennsylvania and Atlantic Aves., an East New York intersection that is bustling during the day.
The man saw a plastic garbage bag in a shopping cart, opened it and found the body, which had no head or limbs, police said.
The body did not appear to be decomposed, had no visible stab or gunshot wounds and no obvious identifying marks or tattoos, a police source said.
Responding officers did an exhaustive canvass of the area looking for other dumped body parts but didn’t find any, the source said.
Police believe the victim is an adult and were scouring for surveillance footage in an attempt to identify the person who rolled the shopping cart to the intersection.
The city medical examiner will determine how the woman died and try to identify her, possibly through a DNA match since fingerprints and dental records are not a possibility, the source said.
