Speeding driver dies after car flips over several times in East Harlem and he’s ejected through moonroof

A speeding driver died early Monday after he lost control of his car in East Harlem, it flipped over several times and he was ejected through the moonroof, police said.

A woman riding in the flipped Honda Accord miraculously suffered only minor injuries, cops said.

Joseph Edlawn, 34, was zipping uptown on the Harlem River Drive in a 2021 Honda Accord when he lost control while trying to navigate the E. 125th St. exit about 1:40 a.m., cops said.

As he flew down the exit ramp, Edlawn struck a curb, causing the car to overturn and roll over several times before coming to rest upside down on the Second Ave. entrance ramp to the Harlem River Drive.

Edlawn was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected through the moonroof. Medics rushed him to Harlem Hospital where he died. He lived in Hackensack, N.J., according to cops.

The 28-year-old woman riding in the front passenger seat was wearing her seatbelt. She suffered only minor injuries and was treated at Harlem Hospital, cops said.
