A 17-year-old boy was injured in a police-involved shooting in East Flatbush, Brooklyn Thursday afternoon.

Officials say NYPD officers patrolling a “summer violence shooting zone” came across a group of teens or young adults fighting near the intersection of East 95th Street and Clarkson Avenue.

A team consisting of one NYPD sergeant and several police officers approached the group and attempted to break up the fight, during which a woman ran off and a 17-year-old boy took off on a Razor scooter.

The woman dropped a bag and was quickly apprehended. The contents of the bag are under investigation.

Meanwhile, as police gave chase to the teen on the scooter, he dropped a purple 9 mm handgun.

Officials say the teen ignored the officers’ repeated instructions not to pick up the gun. He then reached for the weapon and picked up the gun, according to police.

That’s when officers fired one shot which struck the teen in the thigh.

Officers quickly placed him in custody and rendered aid to stop the bleeding. He was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was expected to survive.

A police officer was taken to SUNY Downstate Medical Center for treatment of tinnitus.

It’s not clear yet what the original dispute was about.

The investigation is ongoing.
