Bebe Rexha injured after cellphone hits her during concert in Lower Manhattan
Singer Bebe Rexha is recovering after she was struck by a cell phone that was tossed from the crowd at her concert in Lower Manhattan.
Badly bruised with quite a shiner, Bebe Rexha’s eye is now black and blue but the singer assured fans she will be okay.
On Monday, she posted a note to her fans on Instagram saying, “I’m good.”
It was the last song during her set at The Rooftop at Pier 17 Sunday night when the pop performer asked the crowd to put their phones away to enjoy the experience without distractions.
“She literally said, ‘thank you so much for all of your support you are the best,’ then boom,” concertgoer Ross Bernard said.
The crowd was stunned as they watched the singer drop to the ground.
“I thought it was a CD case, saw her drop down, security grabbed it, it was a phone,” Ron Bosch said.
The singer, whose real name is Bleta Rexha, was taken to the hospital to be checked out. One published report said she received three stitches.
“The energy was top notch, everyone was enjoying all of it and suddenly that shortened, it ruined the night for us,” Jerome Arvasa said.
She dropped to the ground clearly in pain her team rushed to help as security zeroed in on a man in the audience who was standing just a few feet from Ron.
“He looked like he was proud, he raised his hand and was ejected but I’ve never seen anything like it before,” Ron said.
Nicolas Malvagna, 27, of Manalapan, New Jersey, was arrested and charged with assault.
Malvagna is in police custody and is expected to be arraigned later Monday.
