NYPD investigating officer-involved shooting in the Bronx
The NYPD is investigating an officer-involved shooting in the Bronx.
It happened Sunday afternoon just before 2:30 on E. 153rd St and Grand Concourse right in front of Cardinal Hayes High School.
A woman reported being assaulted by a man – and when officers arrived, they quickly caught up to him.
Officials say the man pulled out a gun and pointed it at an innocent pedestrian – then at his own head, refusing to drop the weapon, despite repeated calls to do so.
NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell says the man then suddenly turned the gun on police and four responding officers discharged their gun, striking the man.
“He displays a firearm and points it at a passerby. Our officers give repeated instructions to drop the firearm. At this point, the officers come to corner behind us. The male, refusing to drop the weapon, puts the weapon to his head and rapidly turns to the officers. Our officers discharge their firearms, striking the individual, renders aid, and takes the male into custody,” said Chell.
The man was shot numerous times and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
