Bicyclist found dead after apparent hit-and-run in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn identified
A bicyclist was found fatally struck in the East Williamsburg section of Brooklyn late Thursday night.
The man, identified by police as 56-year-old Eugene Schroeder, was the apparent victim of a hit-and-run driver.
He was found at the intersection of Johnson Avenue and Morgan Avenue at around 11:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation determined the bicyclist was stopped alongside a vehicle on Morgan Ave. and was struck when the vehicle, possibly a truck, made a right turn onto Johnson Ave.
Schroeder was thrown from his bike and suffered severe head injuries. The driver left the scene, traveling west on Johnson.
His partner of 17 years, John Rappaport, is still trying to process life without his husband. He said Schroeder was a DJ and was coming from the gym at the time of the crash.
Rappaport said it’s the small things that he will miss most about his husband like talking in the morning while making coffee.
He wants justice and to keep his loved one’s memory alive.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact police.
