4 teens, 8-year-old killed in Scarsdale, Westchester County crash

Four teens and an 8-year-old child lost their lives when their vehicle struck a tree in Scarsdale, Westchester County early Sunday.

A 9-year-old boy was the only survivor.

Westchester County Police say the Nissan SUV went off the road at Hutchinson River Parkway and Mamaroneck Road bridge at around 12:20 a.m.

The car hit a tree and burst into flames, officials said. A 16-year-old was allegedly behind the wheel.

The five who were killed were between the ages of eight and 17, authorities said.

The 9-year-old was “apparently riding in the rear hatchback/cargo area and escaped out the rear,” according to a statement provided by the Westchester County Police Department.

The boy was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Officials say the victims are all from Derby, Connecticut, and they may be related to one another. Their identities have not yet been released.
