1 killed, 2 injured, including young child, after shooting in Elizabeth, NJ

Police are investigating after one man was killed and two others were injured, including a young child, in a shooting in Elizabeth, New Jersey Monday night, according to officials.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. outside an apartment complex located at 620 Salem Avenue.

There were three victims included a young child, a woman in her 20s and a 28-year-old man, according to the City of Elizabeth’s Public Information Officer.

The 28-year-old victim was killed while the woman and child both suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Officials say all three victims were in the same vehicle that was struck.

There’s no word yet on what led up to the shooting.

According to witnesses, a black sedan fled the scene.

Elizabeth resident Darren Small says the area, Salem Avenue in particular, has become a hotbed for crime, specifically drug activity.

“Very quiet working-class area. Crime came in last few years and there’s nothing being done about it,” Small said.

The shooting is under investigation.
