Authorities in Jamaica vowed “no special treatment” for Usain Bolt after the eight-time Olympic gold medalist tested positive for coronavirus following a mask-free birthday bash over the weekend. 

Prime Minister Andrew Holness confirmed Bolt’s diagnosis in a virtual news conference late Monday, adding that police are investigating reports that the fastest man alive threw himself a party to celebrate his 34th birthday on Friday, an apparent violation of the country’s social distancing restrictions.

“No one is going to be treated with any exemption or given any special treatment,” Holness said. “All Jamaicans have a duty, and of course, those who have the public ear and have influence in public spheres have an even greater duty.”

The retired sprinter, who holds the world record in the 100-meter and 200-meter distance, anticipated the positive test result in a video posted Monday on social media. He said he did not have any symptoms and was self-quarantining at home.
